Guarding the Gifted Shores: JCI Surigao North X Surigao Youth Convergence | May 16, 2026
May 16, 2026 – The Sama Bajau Eco Village in sitio Panubigon, Brgy. Lipata, Surigao City, transformed into an outdoor classroom for environmental advocacy as JCI Surigao North rolled out the second module of “KATIG KABATAAN: Empowering the Voyage of the Sama Bajau Youth (Empowered Bajau Phase IIP”. Appropriately titled: SUYOG: STEWARDS OF THE GIFTED SHORES, this week’s session shifted the focus toward coastal conservation, waste management, and ecological responsibilities. Building directly upon the sense of community pride established during the previous week’s opening, the module aimed to teach the youth that treating their new relocation site as a precious gift requires active, hands-on protection of its marine ecosystems.
This critical leg of the voyage was made possible though a dynamic partnership with the Surigao Youth Convergence (SYC). Capitalizing on their expertise in youth-led advocacy, the dedicated SYG fellows facilitated a comprehensive, creative, and highly engaging discussion centered around the localized environmental storybook, “Wikan, Ang Batang Pawikan” . By navigating the narrative of Wikan, a young sea turtle facing the threat of marine pollution, the Same Bajau youth were able to easily connect complex ecological habits with real-world consequences. The interactive storytelling session successfully underscored the importance of keeping plastic waste off the beaches and out of the ocean, inspiring the participants to become defensive lines for their local waters.
By translating environmental governance into an immersive, youth-friendly format, the collaborative effort between JCI Surigao North and the Surigao Youth Convergence directly advance UN Sustainable Development Goals 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life Below Water), and 17 (Partnership for the Goals). The afternoon concluded with the youth demonstrating a shared commitment to keeping their shoreline clean, proving that they are rapidly transitioning from mere residents into proactive guardians of the Eco Village. A Module 2 draws to a successful close, the Katig Kabataan roadmaps turns its sight towards Module 3, where the youth leaders will soon begin navigating the vital concepts of civic duty, community safety, and emergency response.

JCI Surigao North Newest Flagship Project: Project LEXIS | March 3, 2026
JCI Surigao North, led by 2026 LO President Jemima Plaza, believes that true leadership is rooted in understanding, and that meaningful progress is fueled by informed action. Project LEXIS is a comprehensive Leadership, Legal Literacy, and Cross-sectional Socio-Civic Outreach Series designed to bridge the gap between legal empowerment and grassroots service. The program is spearheaded by 2026 Vice President for Community, Charis May Guerra, together with 2026 Local Communications Director Atty. Princess Jezrael Frondozo and 2026 Local Skills Development Director Raxiey G. Adolfo. The initiative officially launched on March 3, 2026 through a meaningful partnership with the faculty of MAT-I National High School and the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Surigao City.
The maiden activity featured an engaging lecture for Senior High School students focusing on the Safe Spaces Act (Republic Act No. 11313), equipping learners with essential knowledge on promoting respect, accountability, and safety in both physical and digital spaces. In today’s rapidly evolving digital era, where information and technology continue to advance, awareness of laws that protect individuals from harassment and abuse is more critical than ever. By strengthening legal literacy and fostering leadership among the youth, this initiative aims to cultivate a culture of responsibility, respect, and protection within our communities.
Through Project LEXIS, JCI Surigao North continues its commitment to empowering individuals with knowledge, leadership, and civic responsibility—helping build a Surigao that is not only well-led, but also well-informed. Join us as we embark on this journey of education, empowerment, and community impact.

Through the simple yet meaningful act of providing school supplies, we aim to empower these youth learners with the tools they need to pursue education and build brighter tomorrows. Every notebook, pencil, and smile shared reminds us that when communities come together in service, we help sustain the future for the next generation.
Because leadership is not only about creating impact today- it is about nurturing hope, shaping opportunities, and investing the dreams of every child.

JCI Surigao North proudly took part in the RLSB Valentine’s Fun Run as the 2nd-to-thlast hydration station, standing ready to refresh and encourage runners as they neared the final stretch. every cup of water shared and every word or cheer echoed our commitment to be present and purposeful in moments that matter.
In line with our dedication to active citizenship, our chapter organized and managed a hydration station to keep runners refreshed and encouraged throughout the course. This modest yet impactful effort highlights our belief that real service is felt most when we are present, hands-on, and responsive to the needs of the community. Our sincere appreciation to our water sponsors, Engr. Jessie Darryl Eviota and The JellyHabit, for their generous support in making this initiative possible.
